About

Julie Henningsen, PA-C, Founder and Director

Julie is excited to bring NOLS wilderness medicine courses to Bozeman and the larger Montana region.

Julie has been NOLS faculty since 2004, teaching a wide variety of wilderness medicine course types, including wilderness-EMT’s, all over the world. Julie is a certified physician assistant, with years of clinical medical experience, and a life-long passion for the outdoors and adventure. Prior to her clinical work as a PA in Bozeman, she earned a degree in forestry and started her outdoor career working as a forester and wildland firefighter in NW Montana. She later worked in several university outdoor education programs leading international expeditions to Mexico, Ecuador, Canada, India, New Zealand, and throughout the United States. As a wilderness EMT, she also spent many a winter season working as a ski patroller in Big Sky, Montana.

She is married with two kids and a dog, and enjoys people, learning, and connecting with community. Headwaters Field Medicine courses are taught by Julie and/or one of her amazing co-faculty Lena Conlan, Steve Lanwermeyer, Katie Hammonds, and others.

We are proud to parner with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and Eagle Mount
